North Bay's Mike Yeo has been named a new assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks, the NHL team announced on July 1.

The Canucks made a handful of coaching changes adding Mike Yeo and Trent Cull to Bruce Boudreau's coaching staff.

"I am so excited to help bring this group of coaches together," said Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau.

"When I started the conversations with Mike Yeo, it became clear to me that he would be an excellent addition. Working with Patrik to create a well-rounded staff was very important for us as we look to continue to build upon the momentum we experienced last season."

The 48-year-old North Bay product has worked with the Flyers since the 2019-20 season, serving as the interim head coach for the last 60 games of this past season after the firing of Alain Vigneault.

Yeo was nominated into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in the spring of 2019.

He coached the Wild from 2011 to 2016 followed by the Blues from 2016 to 2019, never getting past the second round of the playoffs.
