Mayhem on Main a high flying success again

'It is fun to show off and hear all the applause it motivates you a lot'

Jody Lafleur loves flying around downtown North Bay.

For the fourth year, the 22-year-old Sturgeon Falls native took part in the sixth annual Mayhem on Main, which took place on Main Street in front of Cheapskates on Saturday afternoon as part of the downtown festivities connected to Summer in the Park.

“It is fun and satisfying getting to land that jump, you feel a sense of accomplishment afterward,” said Lafleur.

“It is fun to show off and hear all the applause it motivates you a lot.”

The dirt jumpers build up speed coming off a scaffold as they build up speed on their BMX bikes to get to the ramp.

Barry Klus is the event organizer and owner of Cheapskates.  Obviously having a competition like this right outside his store is good for business, but he says it’s much more than that.

“Being a dirt jump competition you see riders riding either dirt jumpers or BMX bikes, but it is the tricks they pull off and this is an event for experienced riders only so it is not open to everybody so that is what makes it a great show,” said Klus.
“You know kids see it and kids get excited about getting onto a BMX and it just promotes the whole thing about being on a bike and the things you can do with it and outdoor activities so it has evolved to its reputation as really strong right now.”

With another successful event, don’t be surprised to see the bikes flying over Main Street again in the summer of 2019.
