Mattawa barricade incident was a stabbing

A man had barricaded himself in the residence and was refusing to cooperate with police.

A standoff between police and a Mattawa man who barricaded himself in a home started with a stabbing say OPP.

Police were called after a report of a stabbing at a home on Park Street in Mattawa. 

Upon arrival police found an injured man outside of the home.  He was taken to the hospital by and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A man had barricaded himself in the residence and was refusing to cooperate with police.

Numerous resources, including the OPP Emergency Response Team, Crime Unit, Negotiators and Canine Unit, tried to negotiate a peaceful surrender.  The male surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident.

Travis Kidd, 34, of Mattawa, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.

Kidd was held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay today for a bail hearing.

The investigation is still ongoing.
