Man tries to run down OPP officer with a snowmobile

The officer had to jump out of the way in order to avoid being hit

Road rage with a snowmobile!

On Saturday, January 26, Kirkland Lake OPP officers tried to do a traffic stop on a snowmobile in that town.

"The MSV (motorized snow vehicle) accelerated directly towards the officer who was standing outside of the cruiser," said Constable Adam Gauthier. "The officer had to jump out of the way in order to avoid being hit. The MSV then fled the area." 

Police investigated and later charged a Kirkland Lake man. 

Alexander Booth, 26, has been charged with: 

  • Assault a Peace Officer with a weapon, and
  • Dangerous Operation, 

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. 

Booth is scheduled to appear in court on March 7.

 "The operation of any motor vehicle or motorized snow vehicle is a privilege not a right in the province of Ontario and those who choose not to operate their vehicles in an appropriate fashion will be held to account for their actions,"  states Sgt. Adam Estabrooks."The investigative excellence and charges levied in this investigation should serve as a reminder to MSV operators that they need to ride safely and comply with all of the rules of the road."
