Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were on scene for ventilation after responding to two small fires at Sears in the Intercity Shopping Centre Saturday afternoon

Thunder Bay Police are looking for a suspect responsible for setting a pair of fires in Sears that forced the evacuation of the store Saturday afternoon.

It only took the young man three minutes to set the fires and he fled through the mall doors.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a call of a possible structural fire at Sears in the Intercity Shopping Centre shortly before 2 p.m. Upon arrival, crews discovered smoke from two small fires, one on the main level and one on the second level.

According to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue platoon chief, Kelly Patterson, the fires were very minor in nature and caused little damage. There were no reports of injuries.

Police say the damage could have been much more extensive if it were not for fast acting customers who extinguished the fires.

Fire crews remained on the scene to ventilate the building and Sears remains closed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
