Man offers friend a loan, then gets assaulted

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

West Nipissing police say on Feb 16th, they got a walk-in complaint. A man complained that he was visiting his friend’s house situated on John Street, just to talk. While there, his friend asked him if he had any money with him today. The complainant then took 45 dollars from his pocket, at which time he was assaulted by his friend.

The victim was punched on the right side of his face as the suspect tried to get the money. A second man then started to hit him to help take the money.

The victim was pushed outside after the money was stolen from him. He made his way to the police station to report the crime.

One male has been identified and charged with robbery. Police continue to seek the second man’s identity.

Also in West Nipissing police news, on February 1st, an alleged attempted abduction surfaced on social media. The offence was brought to the attention of the OPP and investigators immediately began to look into the matter. It was determined that the events were said to have occurred within the jurisdiction of the West Nipissing Police Service and the investigation was handed over.

A review of the initial investigation suggested that there were inconsistencies in the accounts of events. The complainant was re-interviewed by West Nipissing Police on February 14th and it was determined that the allegations were not truthful. A charge of Public Mischief has been laid.

On February 12th while in the Verner area, one of West Nipissing Police Officer’s received information that a man was driving under the influence of alcohol. The officer patrolled the area and conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle after observing it weaving on the roadway. Upon speaking with the driver that officer formed the opinion that the driver had been driving the motor vehicle while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken into custody. The driver later refused to provide any samples of breath and now faces charges of driving a motor vehicle while his ability to do so is impaired by alcohol, failing to provide breath samples and drive motor vehicle no insurance.

On the 15 of February 2017, Police conducted a search of a home located on Third St in Sturgeon Falls in relation to a sexual assault. During the search police located 2 pill bottles containing 81 tablets of methamphetamine “speed” marked ICE. The pills were located in one of the nightstands in the master bedroom. Police continue their investigation into these offences .

Between February 10th and 16th, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 164 calls for service. Among those were eight motor vehicle collisions, 19 police assistance calls, one domestic disturbance call, three assault complaints, three break and enter calls, three drug offence calls, four thefts, one impaired driving complaint, and one mischief complaint.
