A man died Thursday morning after falling from a Highway 11 overpass. Now, the province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances.
The death of a 31-year-old man near South River closed the northbound lanes of the busy highway all afternoon.
The SIU says preliminary information suggests that at 10:47 a.m. on January 19, an OPP officer went to the Eagle Lake Road overpass at Highway 11 in response to a call about "a man in distress."
There was an interaction between the officer and the man, who then fell from the overpass and onto the highway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses who drove by the incident say they saw the officer performing CPR on the man.
