Yesterday shortly after 6 p.m., police were sent to the city’s bus terminal on Wyld and McIntyre after a complaint that a suspected drunk male passenger on a city bus was being aggressive towards passengers and refusing to leave.

While a police officer was advising him that he was under arrest for being intoxicated in a public place, the man assaulted the officer, causing minor injuries.

After a brief struggle to control the man while he was being placed under arrest, police took him into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police also found he was carrying a concealed screwdriver, which was seized as evidence.

Charged is Curtis George W. Hughes, age 42, of no fixed address, with:

  • One count of assaulting a police officer; and
  • One count of carrying a concealed weapon.

Hughes has also been issued a ticket under Ontario’s Liquor Licence Act for public intoxication.
