École Secondaire Catholique Algonquin educator and coach Tim Lowe has been named the 2022 recipient of the Jim Aspin Memorial Award for Executive of the Year.

There are not many roles Lowe has not taken on in his 31 plus years as a teacher and coach.

From head coach coach to convenor, from the school level to the provincial level, Tim began coaching on his first day as a teacher at ESCA, and since then, he has not stopped.

Lowe has coached the senior Barons girls’ teams for 20 years and has been the senior boys’ coach for the past 17 years. Throughout his time at Algonquin he has also coached badminton, track and field, tennis, boys’ and girls’ hockey and both girls’ and boys’soccer. He has been the head of athletics at ÉSCA for the past 20 years.

Tim also takes pride in his roles off the court or ice as a convenor or committee member. He has been on the NDA executive since 1996, serving as the NDA transfer committee chairperson since 2010. He also served as NDA President for 10 years. He has also served as a convenor 13 times in boys’ and girls’ basketball, as well as numerous times for boys’ soccer.

Tim has also served on many executives at the NOSSA and OFSAA level since 1998, serving as NOSSA President in 2001 and from 2011-2014. Tim has also been convenor for NOSSA championships in basketball and soccer.

At the provincial level, Tim has served as an OFSAA executive member since 2007, as well as on the championship review committee from 2003-2007. He has also been an OFSAA convenor 5 times and has been on 10 OFSAA committees.

Tyson Brear who has coached with Lowe said “from being a coach, to convenor, to committee member, Tim has served in many different roles within the sport community in North Bay. His dedication towards student-athletes and local sport enthusiasts is why he is a worthy recipient of this award.”

Lowe will receive his award at the 42nd Annual Induction and Awards Dinner to be held at the Davedi Club on Saturday, May 6th, 2023. Tickets are available by calling Bill Jacko at 705-492-3961.
