Loud argument in a Bonfield Park leads to drug charges

A tip from the public about an argument in a Bonfield Park led to OPP laying a pair of drug charges.

On Saturday, June 12, at 2 p.m., North Bay OPP officers responded to the complaint 

Officers located one person in a vehicle on Highway 17 in Calvin Township. After speaking with the driver, officers placed him under arrest at the scene for impaired driving.  

Christopher LaVoie, 43, from Mattawa, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a controlled Schedule I substance - methamphetamine

LaVoie's license was suspended for 90-days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on June 29.

This incident marks 35 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay OPP Detachment area in the year 2021.
