Everyone was inside the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park waiting to see Stephen Harper.

But Jeanie Arcand, of North Bay, remained a solitary figure on the side of Pinewood Park Drive, holding a large graphic anti-abortion sign she hoped the Conservative Party leader would see as his car drove by.

"It’s the Conservative Party and they need to realize that abortion is not a gentle scraping of the woman's uterus, it’s a savage act and we have to end it," Arcand said.

"The Conservatives think you can be Conservative in every way and still give a woman her choice. This is very tragic, and the country is in big trouble."

Arcand did give Harper credit for at least letting his party members go with their conciences on the issue.

"He’ll give a free vote and that’s at least restoring democracy, which is more than the Liberals ever did, so it’s a good start," Arcand said.

"So I’d have to say I'm going to vote Conservative."
