A local teacher followed through with her initiative to help students in Nunavut participate in their high school prom.

In early May, Sylvie Vannier asked the public through social media to help students from the community of Hall Beach, Nunavut, who aren’t having a Prom because they can’t afford the fancy attire for the special event.

So for about 10 days Vannier took it upon herself to gather donations from across the community for the cause.

“Well this 11-day adventure is now out of my hands and the 3 extra large wardrobe boxes are going on a long trip,” stated Vannier via Facebook Friday morning.

Vannier says she received donations of dresses, shoes, jewelry, suits, shirts, jackets, shawls, ties and bow ties.

She was also flattered that her initiative received some corporate help as well.

“Thank you to all the companies who have donated in-kind to make this possible,” said Vannier.
