The first-ever Ally and Kyra's Mental Health Fundraiser for Youth Mental Health turned out to be a success.

The run/walk event which took place at the North Bay waterfront raised more than $2000 which will go to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

"Thank you to these young leaders, and all of your participants, for your generosity and support," the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation stated via social media on Monday.

Ally Carter and Kyra O'Hagan have been working on organizing the event for more than six months. They hope the fundraiser will become an annual event.

The two 20-year-old local university students have been tutoring in the school system and they feel they have witnessed first-hand the mental health challenges that have been created for children and teens during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
