North Bay Nipissing News is calling it quits. Last edition to come Oct. 8.

Local news website/newspaper North Bay Nipissing News is shutting down.

Metroland Media Group announced yesterday that Oct. 8 will be the final edition.

A story in today's edition quotes publisher Ian Proudfoot, “In a changing industry, we always re-evaluate our opportunities, and have come to the conclusion that we can strengthen our business with this change.”

The website started in August 18, 2011 giving away a printed edition and delivering it to area households. It was also a free giveaway at area hotels and restaurants.

It was never able to gain traction with its intended audience however.

Twelve staff and a team of drivers and carriers will lose their jobs.

Metroland Media has operations in newspapers, digital properties, flyer distribution, printing, consumer shows, magazines, directories and online commerce, according to its website.
