Chippewa Secondary School Principal Lucio Pavone has won a national award for music education.

Pavone is the "Coalition For Music Education" of Canada’s Central Region Principals of Music Award (POMA) winner.

The award recognizes efforts made by principals in support of music education in schools.

Chippewa will receive $1,500 for the school music program as part of the award.

Pavone was nominated by current and former music educators and was one of three selected from over 30 applications.

Marla Sunstrum, who led the nomination process, says “Mr. Pavone made it his mission to make sure that the music program at Chippewa continues to be a great program for the students”.

Chippewa Secondary School Music program has experienced major growth in the past few years due to the addition of music educators such as Scott Barons who leads the intermediate music program along with Marla Sunstrum who provides music options for students at the secondary level.

The program at Chippewa is designed for students from Grade 7-12 with a strong emphasis on student involvement and participation.
