Local goalie inks with Winnipeg Jets

North Bay’s Ken Appleby has signed a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Jets on trade deadline day.  He was then assigned to ECHL Jacksonville later on Monday.

Appleby, has moved between AHL Manitoba and ECHL Jacksonville this season, and this move was made to make him eligible for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Appleby signed a one-year $650,000 deal with a minor league salary of $70,000.  

The 23-year-old former North Bay AAA Trappers goalie is playing well in Jacksonville with a .920 save percentage in nine games.

Appleby, who is still looking for his first NHL win, made his first three NHL appearances for the New Jersey Devils in 2017-18 and had a 0-1-0 record with a 1.45 GAA and a .945 SV%.

The big goaltender signed a one-year deal with the Manitoba Moose back in July after being released by the New Jersey Devils.

In 74 career AHL games for the Moose, Binghamton Devils, and Albany Devils, Appleby has a 31-36-5 record with two shutouts, a 2.87 GAA, and a .898 SV%.
