A well-known local volleyball coach is being recognized by the sports provincial Hall of Fame.

John Jeffries, known by some locall as "Mr Volleyball" has been entered into the Ontario Volleyball (OVA) Hall of Fame in the Coach category.

Affectionately known to many as JJ - John has mentored many coaches and countless athletes over his four decades of coaching volleyball.

He has coached school teams at every age from grade school right through to university and club ball for Wildcat Volleyball and Vision Volleyball. John has coached OFSAA and OCAA teams to gold. He is a two-time OCAA Coach of the Year, recipient of the OFSAA Award for Leadership in School Sports, a proud member of the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame and recipient of the OVA Syl Aps Volunteer Achievement Award.

"John will also be the first one to tell you that it’s not about him, it’s about the people who he works with and the athletes that he coaches - it is their hard work and dedication," said Vision Volleyball in a release.

Seeing the need for a competitive volleyball Club in North Bay, John along with Danny Gosselin, formed the Wildcat Volleyball Club, now known as Vision Volleyball. Not only was John a coach for Wildcat and Vision but also served on the Board and later as a Coach Mentor with the Club.

Jeffries still helps out with camps through Vision where he continues to guide and teach local youth the sport so near and dear to his heart.
