Local Chamber happy as Feds back down on tax reforms

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce says it welcomes the government’s plans to revise its proposed tax reforms and to reduce the small business tax rate.

“We are pleased to see that the grassroots members and Chambers across the country were able to reach out to MPs and voice their concerns on these proposed tax changes,” said Peter Chirico, Chamber President.

The Trudeau government took the first of several steps today to stanch the bleeding from a self-inflicted political wound, resurrecting a campaign promise to cut taxes for small businesses outraged by its controversial tax-reform proposals.  

The small business tax rate will fall to 10 per cent in January 2018 and again to nine per cent in 2019.

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce represents over 850 businesses that employ almost 10,000 in the region.
