Local artist Vanessa Tignanelli is set to unveil her first major solo exhibition, titled To Be Both, at the WKP Kennedy Gallery in downtown North Bay's Capitol Centre.

For this exhibition, Tignanelli shares she has created a body of work that explores her sense of self and place, as a transient photojournalist who returned to her hometown in the north to get married.

"I am excited to share this vulnerable body of work with you all," says the well-rounded artist.

Using 3D sculpture, installation, collage, painting, and photography in To Be Both, the artist has "returned to an art practice to share my own story for the first time, attempting to interlace two opposing sides of myself: the feminist freelancer and the future wife. The goal was to create work that heals the fear that we must choose between our desires, or fall quietly into stereotypes if we do."

The show, supported by ICAMP at Canadore College and the Ontario Arts Council, debuts Friday, September 24 and all are welcome to that evening's opening reception from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. and To Be Both runs until October 29. Private viewings may be booked at www.kennedygallery.org
