A local animal hospital is concerned about a dog Influenza that is impacting local animals.

"We are definitely having an outbreak of respiratory illness in dogs in North Bay," said Dr. Hailey Bertrand, Practice Owner of Parkside Animal Hospital in North Bay.

"At first we thought it was influenza but tests are coming back negative. We don’t know if this is a really nasty kennel cough that is leading to more pneumonia than usual."

She says some dogs are also experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, and copious nasal discharge.

"We are advising keeping your dog away from others for now until we sort this out," she noted.

Bertrand says at their facility, all the tests are coming back negative for kennel cough, and influenza.

She says the animal hospital is still working on it but they have not had another recent case to test.

"So far all of my patients have responded to treatment (antibiotics, hospitalization with IV fluids for those that are not eating on their own).

Bertrand says one dog has passed away at another clinic within the city.
