WATCH: Ford tightens gathering restrictions in COVID-19 hot spots

The provincial government has also announced a $10K fine for illegal party organizers

Update:

Premier Doug Ford has announced a tightening of restrictions in parts of the province in response to rising COVID-19 numbers.

Starting tomorrow, outdoor gatherings will be restricted to a maximum of 25 people and indoor gatherings will be limited to a maximum of 10 people in Peel, Toronto and Ottawa. These rules do not apply inside businesses that have been given the go-ahead to open, such as movie theatres.

Other Stage 3 rules, including the allowance of 50 people at an indoor event or gathering and 100 people at an outdoor event or gathering, apply to all other regions in the province.

The provincial government has also warned that organizers of illegal social gatherings can face a new minimum fine of $10,000, in addition to the $750 fine for those who attend.

Original story:

Premier Doug Ford is slated to make a COVID-19 announcement today at 1:30 p.m. at Queen's Park.

Sources suggest Ford will be rolling back social gathering limits in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa as confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to tick upwards.

Ford will be joined by Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams, Health Minister Christine Elliott and Minister of Municipal Affairs Steve Clark to make the announcement.

Village Media will carry the livestream, so stay tuned.
