The new Nipissing-Timiskaming Federal Liberal Association will be holding its founding meeting starting at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Clarion Resort-Pinewood Park.

A constitution for the merged riding will be approved at the meeting and an executive elected.

In related news, Garth Goodhew, the membership chair for the current Nipissing riding, says 1,100 federal Liberal Party memberships have been sold.

There will be a nomination meeting in the next few months to choose a succesor to Nipissing MP Bob Wood, who will not be seeking reelection.

Four candidates are seeking the nomination: Susan Church, Anthony Rota, Hugh McLachlan, and Joe Sinicrope.

While local Liberals have asked that the nomination meeting be held March 6 or 7, Goodhew said the national party sets the date for the selection and the deadline for membership purchases.
