Ontario Liberals will give families $300 per vehicle on the purchase of winter tires If elected to government next year.

The promise was made today in a news release.

"The Winter Tire Tax Credit will help strengthen road safety and provide real pocketbook relief by refunding $75 per winter tire if Ontarians make the responsible decision to install winter tires on their vehicles," explains the release.

"Combining road safety with making life more affordable is a win-win for the people of Ontario," said Ontario Liberal Party Leader Steven Del Duca. "The arrival of winter weather gives us the chance to remind people to make the responsible decision to install winter tires."

Road safety advocates have strongly urged motorists to install winter tires in order to prevent collisions.

“Preparing your vehicle for seasonal conditions helps ensure the safety of road users and our roadways,"says Elliott Silverstein of CAA Insurance. "Ten years ago, CAA Insurance was the first insurer in Ontario to offer an auto insurance discount for drivers that equipped their vehicle with four matching winter tires. Today’s announcement builds upon those efforts, and is a concept that would enhance safety while reducing the financial burden of winter tires for many Ontarians across the province.”
