Hec Lavigne has filed his nomination to run for mayor of Callander for another term.

“I wish to announce that I have submitted my name to once again represent you as Mayor,” Lavigne stated in a release.

“I most certainly appreciate the support you have given me in the past and  I do hope you will give me the opportunity to continue in this role.”

Lavigne says his focus remains the delivery of services.

“We maintain moderate tax levels which are in line with the many rural communities in the region,” he stated.

“We most certainly have taken tax increases in the past to meet our obligations but we do understand that it is your money that we are dealing with and great care is taken to making every dollar count. As we all do in our personal lives we simply can’t afford to follow through on our plans for the future without careful planning and our ability to pay.

“I dare suggest that 80% of what we budget for has been downloaded or legislated by other levels of government which leaves very little that we have actual control over at a local level.”

Lavigne was acclaimed Mayor of Callander in the previous municipal election in 2014.

Lavigne has been the mayor of Callander since 2006.
