Well known local labour activist Henri Giroux will be receiving an allogeneic stem cell transplant in an Ottawa area hospital today.

The 63-year-old former Cassellholme employee was suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 Epstein-Barr B-cell lymphoma in July of 2018. Lymphoma is a group of cancers that affect the cells that play a role in the immune system and primarily represents cells involved in the lymphatic system of the body.

After going through aggressive chemotherapy, Giroux battled interstitial pneumonia and was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome last fall, which is described as "a group of cancers in which immature blood cells in the bone marrow do not mature, so do not become healthy blood cells."

"This Man is known for being one of the strongest, courageous and bravest man we know," a number of his former co-workers at Cassellholme posted on social media on Monday along with a motivational video.

"Tuesday he will be receiving an Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant in Ottawa," the encouraging social media post continued.

"They found a match! Hallelujah! We want to let you know that your family at Cassellholme and the entire Community are behind you every step of the way. You got this. We love you!"
