Kitchen knife used in weekend attack

Police have charged a man with attempted murder after a stabbing at the downtown end of Algonquin Avenue Saturday.

North Bay Police were called to a residence regarding a disturbance and found two men had been fighting. One man was stabbed several times with a kitchen knife.

The call came in at 9:45 p.m., when the two men, who are known to each other, started fighting.

The victim was struck numerous times by fists, then the attacker produced a large kitchen knife and began repeatedly stabbing the victim. Another tenant in the building was alerted to the noise and called the police.

The victim was able to flee prior to police arrival and was taken to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Emergency Room. He received multiple serious injuries as a result of the stabbing. 

When the police arrived the attacker was found and was arrested.

Todd MacKinnon, 30, of North Bay is charged with:

  • One count of Attempt Murder and
  • One count of Breaching a Probation Order

MacKinnon was held in custody pending a show cause hearing today at the North Bay Courthouse.

The investigation is continuing.
