Update 3:18 Friday:

Councillor Scott Robertson this afternoon called on Mark King to immediately resign as chair of  District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

"The public expects us to maintain a high level of integrity and transparency when conducting public business particularly when you are dealing with an 80 million dollar operating budget funded by the taxpayers," Robertson said in a statement to BayToday.

"Respecting the bylaw that governs the board is a critical matter. I call on councillor Mark King to resign effective immediately in order to maintain the integrity of our bylaws."

Robertson emphasized he has no desire to sit as chair of the organization.

Original story:

Councillor Mark King has stepped aside as chairman of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

The move comes as fellow councillor Scott Robertson, also on the board, researched the bylaws and discovered a chair can't sit for more than four consecutive single years.

King has hit that limit.

"I've stepped aside," King told Baytoday. "I was successful in being reinstated as the chair but basically I stepped aside to allow Councillor Bain, who is the vice chair, to convene the meeting."

The Board will now have to convene and deal with the term bylaw, which could mean dropping that provision.

"I'm hearing that from some of the board members," explained King. "Just rescind that one short item in the bylaws, so that could happen but it's all up to the board."

There is no precedent for this so King is unsure whether a new election for chair will be needed.

DNSSAB CEO Joe Bradbury confirmed to BayToday that King has stepped aside, but not resigned as chair.

"He's stepped aside pending the review."

That's expected at a special meeting next week where the Board will determine the future role of the chairmanship.

"There's a number of options," said Bradbury. "This DNSSAB is the only one I'm aware of that has that kind of restrictive term. It's not a requirement of legislation it's a procedure of this board."

Meanwhile, Robertson this afternoon called on King to immediately resign as chair.

"The public expects us to maintain a high level
