The King George Core French students have been celebrating the “Carnaval” with the French community by hosting their own café in French for their parents and grandparents, and today was the ninth year.

The tradition was held for the final time before the school closes in June.

After the café closed, a king and queen of the café were crowned. They king and queen then headed to the front doors of the school, where the primary kids were singing French songs while they anxiously awaited the arrival of Le Compagnons des Francs Loisirs’ Bonhomme Carnaval.

"We're celebrating with the French community and we wanted to provide an authentic experience for the children to use the French they are learning in the classrooms", teacher Joan Bidal told BayToday. "We invited all the parents and grandparents of grades 4, 5 and 6 to come and enjoy something to eat and drink with their kids.

"It was amazing, the kids absolutely love it"

The café featured for the first time an Algonquin high school alumni, Carol Tieu who came from Ottawa to sing French songs.

The cook was Natalie Laberge.
