Job Fair packed with potential

'I know my friends have been looking for a while and they've been having trouble but they don't go to job fairs, so that's something I would recommend to them'

It didn't take long for the job fair at the Davedi Club to fill this morning as potential employees lined up at the door for the 10 a.m. opening.

It's organized by The Labour Market Group (LMG) which presents Workforce Week to promote, highlight and showcase the workforce opportunities in the districts. Over 30 employers were actively hiring.

Alexandre Shank from North Bay, told BayToday he is interested in a military career.

"I'm looking for a job and hopefully something hands on, anything to do with physical activity and really getting out there."

Shank thinks this may be a perfect fit.

"I've always wanted to since I was 16. I just never had the chance to go because I'm so busy with sports growing up, so I never had the chance to commit to it, but now I can and I'm really excited. I'm pretty sold on it."

There were recruiters from a wide range of businesses.

The OPP is currently involved in a province-wide recruitment effort

Ayla Bronbach has just graduated from Nipissing University with a biology degree, but isn't sure yet what she wants to do in life, although a career in policing appeals to her.

"It interests me. I believe it could be a great stepping stone. I've been introduced to the OPP and I'll see if that's what I want to do in the future. I was thinking of being a conservation officer but I'm not quite sure if that's for me. I may go into police work instead."

She has just started looking for a job so isn't sure how hard it will be.

"I know my friends have been looking for a while and they've been having trouble but they don't go to job fairs, so that's something I would recommend to them."

The job fair closes at 3 p.m.
