November was Women Abuse Prevention Month and the Nipissing Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee (VAWCC) is recognizing Jim’s Locksmithing because of its consistent support of women and children experiencing violence.

Ysterday the VAWCC presented Amber Winters and the staff with an award in recognition of their commitment and dedication to the service of those affected by intimate partner violence.

"Jim’s is quick to respond to calls for service helping victims feel secure in their own homes again." said Kathleen Jodouin, Executive Director of Victim Services of Nipissing District. “it takes collaboration from many in our community to support women and children affected by intimate partner violence. Jim’s Locksmithing quickly and professionally responds to our calls for service to change locks and help women and their children regain a sense of safety after being victimized."

Stats Can 2018 estimated that intimate partner violence represents nearly one-third of all police-reported violent crimes in Canada with almost 99,000 victims. However, the majority of cases, 80 per cent, go unreported to police.

“Victim Services have responded to more than 240 incidents of intimate partner violence since April," added Jodouin. "With the help of community partners like Jim’s Locksmithing we are better able to support victims.”

Each year the VAWCC selects a recipient from the community who has demonstrated their support for victims and dedication to eliminating intimate partner violence.
