Inquest date into hospital death announced

Dr. David Cameron, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, has announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of John Roberts.

Roberts, 49, died in hospital on December 15, 2016, while in police custody for impaired driving. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Roberts' death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and hear from approximately three witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the North Bay Courthouse, 360 Plouffee St.

Dr. Steven Bodley will preside as inquest coroner and Russ Wood will be counsel to the coroner.
