Incredibly busy long weekend for police

OPP and North Bay City Police responded to more than 420 calls.

The North Bay City Police and the OPP had their hands full on the weekend as the services responded to more than 420 calls combined.  

The North Bay/Mattawa/ Powassan Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments were kept busy over the Victoria Day long weekend responding to a variety of incidents.

Officers dealt with 121 calls for service, which included break and enters, assaults, motor vehicle collisions and many other criminal and provincial matters.  The OPP also conducted traffic and marine enforcement ensuring road and waterway safety throughout the area.

The following is a list of charges that were issued by officers:

  • 69-Speeding
  • 10-Distracted Driving
  • 6-Seatbelts

The OPP would like to thank the many Ontario residents and visitors who did their part to ensure that they and their families made it through a safe long weekend on our roads, waterways and trails.

Over the long weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 303 calls for service and arrested and charged 14 people with the following offences:

  • One person was charged with one count of carrying concealed weapon, one count of uttering threats, three counts of assault with a weapon, one count of weapon possession for a dangerous purpose and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon;
  • One person was charged with one count of domestic assault;
  • One person was charged with unlawfully at large;
  • One person was charged with impaired driving, driver over 80, and breach of recognizance;
  • One person was charged with criminal harassment
  • One person was charged with indecent exposure;
  • Five people were charged with breaches; and
  • Three people were charged with public intoxication.
