Canadore College officially opened the doors to its much-anticipated ICAMP 2.0 facility, an expansion to its original Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Production (ICAMP) on Friday.

“Canadore is proud to be bringing more resources to our region to fuel even greater levels of innovation,” said Canadore President and CEO George Burton.

“ICAMP is a hub where entrepreneurs and industry is matched to technology and expertise through applied research and enthusiasm. We are grateful for the support we’ve received from government and industry, and we’re happy to have the trust of our partners and community as we work together to build a stronger northern Ontario through innovation.”

Plans for ICAMP 2.0 were formally announced last summer in response to strong industry demand. The first phase of the Centre celebrated significant success, having created a unique partnership arrangement focused on business development and expansion, allowing companies to conceptualize, design, prototype and improve or test new products for the commercial marketplace.

The College purchased an industrial EOS M 290 3D metal printer; YuMi®, a collaborative, dual arm, small parts assembly robot; design simulation software solutions; advanced visualization, productivity and project management tools; and other various equipment to supplement current technologies.

Since opening the doors to ICAMP in 2013, more than 200 companies have shown an interest in using ICAMP to develop or refine new products and processes for more than 166 projects. The facility is most frequently used for applied research and R&D initiatives, as well as technological equipment and services.

The Centre has also helped industry create and maintain 107 jobs in the region’s economy.
