Five deaths on Hwy 11 is “enough” for Nicky Ouellette, and the North Bay woman said she’ll be letting the province know they’d better complete the four-laning of the north-south route.

Ouellette held a news conference this morning at city hall to thank the community for its support and sympathy in the aftermath of the accident on Hwy 11 several weeks ago that claimed the lives of her husband and four of her six children.

During the news conference baytoday.ca asked Ouellette about the continued call by local politicians to have the four-laning of Hwy 11 completed.

“It was a thought of mine as well,” Ouellette said, “that when all of this was said and done, they’re going to hear from me.”

Ouellette said her name didn’t have clout before, “but let me tell you it has clout now.”

“And that four-laning, if I have anything to do with it, will be finished, because I’m not losing anybody else on that highway. Five is enough. Five is too many.”

Ouellette said the first step she'll take is to make a presentation to North Bay city council.

"I will see how that works and then take the next step after that," she said.
