Huntsville RIDE stop leads to possession of explosive charge

An OPP RIDE check has in Huntsville has discovered prohibited weapons and an explosive device.

The 26-year-old male driver has been arrested and charged with drug and criminal code offences.

On July 18 at 1 a.m. officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on Main St. West Huntsville.

The initial investigation resulted in the arrest of Hanad Ahmed for possession of a controlled substance, but a further investigation resulted police learning that Ahmed was on probation

As a result, police found a number of controlled substances and prohibited weapons. Two Percocet pills, various break and enter tools, a spring assisted knife, a small baseball bat and an explosive device were seized by police.

Ahmed, from Scarborough is charged with:

  • Possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance

Ahmed was held for a bail hearing where he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Court Huntsville on July 22.
