Human Rights Hall of Fame seeks nominations

Nominations are now open for the Nipissing District Human Rights Hall of Fame.

Someone will be inducted to the hall at the 29th annual Evening of Applause March 23 at West Ferris Secondary School.

The event is in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination March 21 each year. North Bay and area has the longest running International Day project in Canada.

The event is sponsored by all four district school boards and the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre.

The selection committee is seeking nominations for people who have shown leadership in human rights or anti-racism activities locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.

Winners are honoured along with Students Who Make a Difference from all grade levels and anti-racism poster contest winners.

Ed Smith, Geniza Ortega, Don Jacobs, André and Anne Marie Dupuis, Dr. Rod Johnston, André Corbeil, Mariela Karpecki, Violet “Ma” Woodward, Marie Marchand, Rita Sullivan, Judi Brewer, George Wallace, Dr. Glenda Simms and Rev. Jim Sinclair.

A nomination summary of no more than 500 words should be submitted along with as much supporting information as possible.
