The North Bay General Hospital is scheduled to appear in court next week facing Ministry of Labour health and safety compliance orders laid in March 2004.

Hospital President and CEO Mark Hurst said the hospital will be dealing with six Ministry of Labour compliance orders.

"We want to assure everyone that we take the health and safety of our staff, physicians, patients and the public who enter our hospital very seriously,” Hurst stated in a news release.

“We continually strive to provide a safe work environment for all of our employees, physicians, and volunteers and that ultimately means providing the highest quality of care for our patients.”

The court case is expected to last four to five days and the hospital is hoping for an amicable result to these charges.

“No matter what the results of this case, the hospital will continue to place health and safety of its employees, physicians and patients as its number one priority,” Hurst said.

The Labour Ministry alleges the hospital failed to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
