North Bay Mayor Al McDonald proclaimed June 7, 8 and 9 Patrick 4 Life Weekend in North Bay at an annual fundraising dinner held Saturday evening by the Patrick 4 Life organization at École secondaire catholique Algonquin.

“As Mayor of North Bay it was my great honour to proclaim June 7, 8 and 9 Patrick 4 Life Weekend.” said Mayor McDonald. “The Patrick 4 Life organization continues to do tremendous work with youth providing education and awareness about HIV/AIDS and building acceptance for people with HIV/AIDS.”

Patrick 4 Life, currently in its eighth year, has impacted the lives of thousands of young Ontarians through in school educational programming. Locally, Patrick 4 Life continues to have a significant presence in the community through regular events such as Youth Fest, the Patrick 4 Life Run Walk Family Fest event and the elementary school focused program Partici-Patrick.

Partici-Patrick Day of Champions took place at Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex on Friday, June 7, with more than 2100 students completing their ten-week, in-school, physical activity program.

“School children from across the city have attended Partici-Patrick each year for the last seven years. I am inspired to see how Patrick 4 Life has empowered youth in our community who are benefiting from actively participating in our programs.” said Christine Fortin, Patrick 4 Life Co-founder. “Every child received a medal, honouring their achievement. The medal stands as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and accomplishment.”

The annual Patrick 4 Life Run Walk Family Fest took place on North Bay’s beautiful waterfront yesterday, Sunday, June 9.

“Hundreds of people from around the region take part in the Run Walk Family Fest.” said Mayor McDonald “In fact, I ran along with all the others in support of Patrick 4 Life.”

Patrick 4 Life has evolved over the years and has grown from a local charity to an organization that has changed lives and perspectives right across Ontario. As Patrick 4 Life continues to grow and expand the importance of its mission: creating HIV Awareness through education, leadership, fundraising and partnerships, the message resonates with an ever widening audience.

The Patrick 4 Life vision: every child in every classroom in the Province of Ontario will experience an HIV/AIDS awareness education program, is a vision worth supporting and celebrating.

“In our modern world, HIV/AIDS is a reality that everyone should be aware of and our goal is to ensure understanding about the issue and acceptance of those dealing with the disease.” said Christine Fortin.
