Hilton Beach man charged with impaired driving

On Wednesday November 7, 2012 at approximately 3:30pm, the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a member of the public reporting a traffic complaint. The caller advised that a vehicle they were following on the Bypass near Fisher Street was all over the road and they were concerned because of his driving.

Members of the North Bay OPP were able to locate the vehicle within 10 minutes and conducted a traffic stop just east of Highway #11 on Highway #17. When stopped – the driver had an open can of beer beside him and was consequently arrested for impaired driving. The driver was transported back to the North Bay Detachment and provided 2 breath samples, both indicating readings of 220mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

Charged with Impaired Driving and Exceeding 80mgs of alcohol in 100ml of blood contrary to sections 253 (1)(a) and (b) is:

Jorma PORANTO 68 year old male from Hilton Beach, ON. Mr. PORANTO was also served a 90 license suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for 7 days. He will make his first court appearance in North Bay on November 20, 2012.
