The OPP report Highway 64 between LeClair Road and Piquette Road in Verner remains closed as the OPP and West Nipissing Police are involved in an incident.
Witnesses say around 8 p.m. OPP officers were seen in SWAT gear near the Verner Library in connection with an incident which police say started around 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
"The residence is located on Highway 64 and the immediate area has been contained," the OPP stated in a Tuesday afternoon news release.
Assisting with the ongoing incident is the OPP's Critical Incident Command (CIC), the Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Crisis Negotiators and the Canine Unit.
Highway 64 between Piquette Road and Leclair Road still remains closed.
The public is asked to use Highway 535. We want to reassure the public that their safety is not at risk.
