UPDATE Highway 400 multi vehicle crash and one dead after head-on crash on Hwy. 69 yesterday

Update 9:a.m.

On April 4, members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the OPP along with the assistance of OPP Technical Collision Investigation are investigating a fatality as a result of a head-on motor vehicle collision. The collision occurred north of Still River, on Highway 69 in Henvey Township The Highway Safety Division, Britt Fire Department, Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services Sudbury EMS also assisted with the collision.

The vehicles involved were two commercial motor vehicles.

The driver of the northbound tractor-trailer was killed in the collision. He has been identified as Eugene Coon, a 53 year old male from Sudbury. The driver of the second Tractor-trailer was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported via Twitter yesterday that Highway 400 southbound in Barrie was blocked at Bayfield Street due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said on social media that up to 50 vehicles were involved.

Meanwhile, One person is dead and another was sent to hospital after a head-on motor vehicle collision on Highway 69 near Key River at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The OPP said that the collision involved two commercial motor vehicles.

As of 10:09 p.m. Wednesday, the highway had been reopened to one lane in the area after being completely closed for much of the day.

In North Bay, Airport Road between Little Down Lane and Duxford Road, the west entrance to the CFB North Bay, was closed yesterday due to whiteout conditions.

Also, police closed the roadway between Carmichael Drive and Duxford Road, the east entrance to the CFB.

Highway 11 north was also closed after a traffic accident but has since reopened.

At approximately 7:15 a.m., officers from the North Bay OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, east of Christine Lane, in Nipissing First Nation just outside city limits. 

Two vehicles were involved in the collision; a tractor-trailer and a sport utility vehicle (SUV).  The driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was brought to hospital for assessment.   

At this time, Highway 17 is closed in both directions in this area, while police conduct an investigation, but will be open very soon.
