Highway 11/400 can be a dangerous place

There were complaints of a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 11

A few incidents in the past 24 hours on Highway 11/400 made us go...hmmm.

The first was a drunk driver using his cellphone.

OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 Northbound near Line 13 of Oro-Medonte Township near Barrie.

Witnesses reported that the driver of a Black Honda Civic was driving erratically when it struck the centre guardrail. 

A Kitchener man is charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle 
  • Driving While Ability Impaired 
  • Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in 100mls of Blood
  • Drive Hand Held Communication Device 
  • Drive While Under Suspension 

The second incident was a drunk driver going the wrong way in the northbound lanes.

This morning at 3:06 OPP responded to complaints of a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 11 between Line 10 and Line 8 of Oro-Medonte Township.

The 2011 White Audi was stopped and the driver was investigated.

A 51-years old Oakville man has been arrested and charged with:

  • Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and
  • Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While having over 80mgs of Alcohol in 100mls of Blood.

His car was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended for 90 days. 

And the third, yesterday, a drunk driver going 145 in a 100 km/hr zone.

At approximately 8:05 p.m., a member of the Barrie OPP was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 400 north in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

A motor vehicle was observed to be traveling at 146 km/h in the 100km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the Officer spoke to the lone male driver of the 2003 Volvo.

 A 58 year old Aurora man was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Having Over 80mgs of Alcohol in 100mls of Blood and
  • Care or Control While Ability Impaired by Alcohol

The 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and the driver's vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days.
