Highway 11 closed south of Temagami for the next few hours. Snow squall warning continues

No details yet, but OPP report Highway 11 is closed due to a serious collision south of Temagami.

Collision reconstruction investigators are working on the scene.

Police are warning people to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, the snow squall warning continues for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • West Nipissing - French River, 
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity, 

Snow squalls are developing off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay early this morning and are expected to continue until this evening.

Snowfall rates of a few cm per hour are possible under the strongest bands. However, the bands are expected to shift from time to time which will limit accumulations somewhat.

Total local snowfall amounts of up to 15 cm are possible in the heaviest snow squalls by this evening. For areas farther inland such as the city of Sudbury, snowfall amounts will be considerably less.

Highways 69, 17 and 11 will likely be affected.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
