Updated: Fiery crash closes Highway 11 near Englehart

Police are asking motorists to be patient

Update 8:15 p.m.: At approximately 4:46 p.m. members from the Kirkland Lake Detachment and the Temiskaming Detachment of the OPP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 11 just north of Englehart. 

A tractor-trailer collided with a cube van. 

The collision caused the vehicles to catch fire and injuries are unknown at this time. 

The highway remains closed and it is unknown when it will reopen.

Assisting with this investigation is the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, Miller Group, Englehart Fire Department and Temiskaming Shores Emergency Medical Services.

Sharon Evelina Veley writes, "I was on that highway today, North Bay to Temagami and back. The highway was bad and there was freezing rain and ice pellets off and on. It was a TERRIFYING trip with occasional white outs."

Waiting for more details but OPP say Highway 11 just north of Englehart is closed due to a multi-vehicle crash.

Police say it involves two transports and a third vehicle and happened around 5 p.m.

There is a detour via Hwy 560 & Hwy 573. 

Police are asking motorists to be patient.
