High risk traffic stop leads to three arrests and multiple gun charges

A report of an assault with a weapon at Jocko Point yesterday led OPP on a chase that finished with a high-risk takedown and the arrest of three North Bay residents.

On April 3 Nipissing West OPP received a report of an assault with a weapon that occurred on Highway 17, east of Jocko Point Road and that the suspects had fled the scene heading westbound on Highway 17.

With the help of officers from the North Bay and Anishinabek Police services, the vehicle and occupants were located on Highway 17 in West Nipissing, where a high-risk traffic stop was conducted.

Investigation revealed none of the involved people were injured. Officers did seize a number of weapons along with break-in tools.

Three people were arrested.

Valerie Degagne, 36, and Douglas Hynds, 28, both from North Bay, are charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of break-In instruments

Degagne was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 9 in North Bay. 

Hynds was also released by way of an undertaking but is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 30 in North Bay.

Ronald Lawrence, 37, from North Bay is charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of break-In instruments

Lawrence was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 9 in North Bay.
