It felt like 36 degrees Tuesday afternoon, but the popular Marathon Beach was empty as northerners followed the COVID-19 guidelines. Jeff Turl/BayToday.

Premier Doug Ford looked so disappointed at the behaviour of Torontonians last weekend at the City's Trinity Bellwoods Park, that BayToday wondered how people in the North Bay area would behave under this heat warning.

It's well known how people in this area love their lakes and beaches, but could they resist and follow the rules.

The temperature at 2:30 yesterday afternoon was 30 and the humidex made it feel like 36....surely people would flock to somewhere they could cool off.

But Mr. Premier, we are pleased to report that northerners are sticking to the plan.

Municipal beaches in North Bay are closed. But as the mid-afternoon temperatures Tuesday soared, North By's Marathon Beach...the most popular in the city...sat empty.

We followed the rules!

Premier Ford says that he's "not going to punish the rest of the province" by rolling back restrictions after hundreds of people gathered at Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto over the weekend.

"I'm not going to punish the whole province because a group of people in Toronto ended up getting together," he said.

"It was like a rock concert without the band," he said Monday.

Ford says he won't reinstitute some of the restrictions already removed.

Beachgoers here will have to be patient however, or know someone with their own beach. Temperatures will hit 30 again under sunny skies while the heat warning continues.
