People of all ages lined the streets of downtown North Bay this afternoon to watch the Santa Claus parade.

The parade was made up of over 50 floats, people marching and a number of bands playing Christmas songs.

Local businesses added to the Christmas spirit by handing out candy canes, selling hot chocolate and playing Christmas carols.

Bleachers were set up along Main Street, to help everyone get a good view of the parade, and people dressed as bears and Christmas presents entertained kids who were waiting for the parade to start.

The floats were put together by local businesses, schools, non-profit groups and public services.

Although the floats were impressive, the unanimous favourite among the children was the Santa Claus finale.

“My favourite would have to be Santa,” said Jordan, who’s younger sister Rachel eagerly agreed with.

The Santa float displayed Mr. Claus in his throne with two toy soldier bodyguards.

And of course his sleigh and a fireplace were also aboard.

Children helped Santa by throwing candy canes to the audience from the float.

“It’s good to see the community pull together and do something for all these kids,” said Carrie, an education student from Nipissing.

“He’s still too mesmerized to say anything,” said one mother of a young boy, as they prepared to go home.

As the crowd began to disperse, everyone seemed to be in agreement that the parade was a hit.
