The heavy rain special weather statement has ended and the weekend weather outlook has im proved. Periods of rain ending early this afternoon then cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. 

Chance of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday has dropped to 40 per cent.

A soaking significant rainfall on tap. 

A low-pressure area over Minnesota will slowly track east towards Lake Superior tonight, reaching Northern Lake Huron on Thursday. This weather system will bring a large area of showers and embedded thunderstorms with it tonight through Thursday night.

Latest indication suggests a widespread total rainfall amount of 20 to 40 millimetres by Thursday night, with amounts of 40 to 50 millimetres likely in a few localities. 

Areas that receive two or more thunderstorms in a row may receive locally higher rainfall amounts even higher than 50 millimetres.
