The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is hoping local businesses will implement their own vaccine policy within the workplace.

The Health Unit provides a guide for businesses in the form of a Vaccine Policy Toolkit which is available to view and download from the website.

Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health at the local Health Unit, believes having a policy is important now that the vaccine passport mandate has been put into effect this week.

"I was not part of this discussion as it was an Ontario decision, but what we do say is we work with businesses to really encourage them to have a vaccine policy in place that will help protect both their staff and people coming in as patrons," explained Chirico during Thursday's weekly online media conference.

Earlier in the week, one local restaurant manager noted the confusion with the new passport which mandates members of the public to show proof of vaccination when workers do not have the same rules.

"The thing that bugs me is unvaccinated patrons cannot come in because they don't have vaccines, then how is it okay for a staff member to not have any vaccines but be able to work in the restaurant," questioned Ken Anderson, Manager at the Station Tap House and Steak Company earlier in the week.

"It is a very tricky thing this Ontario government is doing right now in terms of who is allowed in and who is not."
