Harper introduces non-confidence motion

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper has introduced a non-confidence motion in the House of Commons.
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper has introduced a non-confidence motion in the House of Commons.

A vote on the motion is expected Monday, and would likely trigger a collapse of the Liberal minority government, with a subsequent and rare winter election to follow.

Both the NDP and Bloc Quebecois supported the motion, and their votes Monday along with the Conservatives would easily defeat the Liberals.

Peter Chirico, of the Conservative Party, incumbent Liberal MP Anthony Rota and Meg Purdy, of the Green Party, are the only declared candidates so far for the Nipissing-Temiskaming riding.

The NDP will be holding its nomination night Dec. 4.
